TESTERS WANTED!! – PING Crossovers

TESTERS WANTED!! – PING Crossovers

You are about to enter another dimension.  A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. There’s a signpost up ahead – your next stop?

The Crossover Zone.

PING Golf is many things, but satisfied with the status quo isn’t one of them.  PING offers some of the easiest to hit long irons and hybrids on the market, and with every new offering they always have a compelling story to tell. This year’s G line, from driver to pitching wedge, is loaded with technology PING believes will make the game a boatload easier and more fun to play.

PING-Crossover-100

The Crossover

You first read about PING’s new Crossover on MyGolfSpy back in January. PING says it combines the precision, workability and control of an iron with the speed and forgiveness of a hybrid, but you can’t quite call it a “hybrid-iron.” Oh, and don’t go thinking it’s a driving iron because according to PING it’s NOT – it says so on their website and they’ve told us so many times – they say it launches higher, is way more forgiving and way more versatile than a driving iron.

Is this a club you need in your bag? Are you one of the unfortunates who can hook virtually any hybrid made off the face of the planet? Do long irons scare you to the point that you want to curl up in the fetal position in the middle of the 8th fairway and cry “Mommy?”

PING-CROSSOVER-100-3

Or would you just like something that’s easier to hit and more accurate?

If you’re any one of those listed above, we might be able to help.

MyGolfSpy Wants You!

We want to put PING’s Crossover clubs to the test, and we need your help to do it. We’re looking for four intrepid and energetic golfers to test and review PING’s new creation and tell us if these things really are as precise, workable, controllable and forgiving as PING claims.

Are these the real deal?

Is the Crossover a reliable replacement for a long iron? Will it fit seamlessly between your longest iron and hybrid or fairway wood?

Are they just as easy to hit as a hybrid, but stay in the same zip code as your target?

Real golfers want to know.

PING-Crossover-104

How To Apply:

We need four folks to try out and review these new Crossovers, which PING will build to your specifications and to fit into your existing set. To apply, please follow each of the following steps:

This is an exciting opportunity for you to test out and review one of 2016’s unique niche products. Could it be the one that helps your long game? We want you to let us know!

All applications must be made in the MyGolfspy Forum thread. We’ll take applications for the next 10 days or so, and will announce the testers in the Forum thread.

Please don’t apply here – it won’t do you any good!

I’ve been intrigued with this club since it’s release. I prefer the ball flight and workability of an iron, but I carry a hybrid for the for those days I don’t catch everything clean. I hope the reviews are positive as this could potentially fill a gap for me.

The ping crossover would make my set awesome and would be a lot of fun. Right now I have an Adams Idea a12os 4 hybrid and a taylormade 7 wood for my 3 iron.

I will be curious to follow this thread once the reviews come in. In theory, it is perfect for me, but I’ve tested it twice indoors and both times could not hit solid shots with it. It actually stung my hands more than a few times. I am a 5 handicap and play blades so my ball-striking is not that bad. I think I may have been hitting it too high on the face? Whatever the reason, the fact that it has the ability to sting my hands means that it is not forgiving in the way that I need this club to be for me.

Thanks but no thanks. I’m not trying to be a snob but I have never found Ping irons to fit my game and certainly not my eyes. I took a demo set out years ago and returned to the clubhouse less than 2-holes in. I know many golfers who swear by Ping but I know many like me who look down at address and cannot reconcile what it is on the end of the shaft? And maybe somebody can explain what the notch is for on the heel of the club head? Is that to reduce wind resistance?

      Reply

      Johnny

Since they are cast clubs the notch makes them easier to bend and perhaps “fit” your game a little better ; )

      Reply

      Kenny B

Although Pings can be bent a little, they are not meant to be bent for fitting purposes. Pings are fit by color coding for lie adjustment when purchased.

I was told several years ago when I bought my i20’s that the notch on the heel was to reduce drag through tall grass so the club doesn’t twist as much. However, I am not sure why anyone would use this club from tall grass.

I would love to test this club. I am a single digit living in Austin. I struggle with consistency in my long irons (specifically 3 and 4 iron), yet hybrids hit the ball to high during or windy season (even the low spinning models). Just watch the Dell Match Play today, winds are expected to be consistently between 15 and 20 mph. I tried another brand with similar design and had the same consistency issues. Please allow me to try the 3 iron stiff and compare.
