I came here looking for a review on new CG16 for my students and appreciate most of the insights.
Though some such as that from “ja2thacub” about hackers and suggesting some sort of golf snobbery should be in play really against clubs that allow more people to enjoy our great game are delusional and ridiculous.
First of all let me explain how it is delusional. There is an old adage that if a person has to tell you something special about themselves, then it probably isn’t true – such as the person who has to tell you they are very rich, or very stylish or a very good golfer. In terms of golf unfortunately this delusion often extends to people playing with forged irons (when their handicap is greater than six) or refusing to use hybrids (while many pros have them in their bags) or persisting with a blade putter (when they can’t steer it and again many pros use mallets).
Secondly it is ridiculous to suggest that players should not use every available technology to improve their game within the rules. Do you really think that the pros would be using the new suite of wedges if the groove rules hadn’t been changed? And also I refer back to my comments on pros having mallet putters and hybrids and rescue irons in their bags.
If wannabes like “ja2thacub” are genuine in their vehement rejection of any new game improvement technology then I would expect to find in their (canvas) bags the old-regulation smaller balls, irons with hickory shafts, fairways and drivers made of wood and of course they would carry and could hit a 1 iron rifle straight. No, why? And don’t use the excuse that you only use what the pros use or are you so thick that I have to mention mallets and hybrids once again.
No “ja2thacub” you are a pretender that would be best to leave our wonderful game well alone. I doubt you have the integrity or etiquette to be welcome on many courses anyway, certainly not any they require you to wear shoes. Perhaps something more obnoxious like world championship wrestling is more your style where everyone is pretending to be someone they are not.

It’ll be fun watching golfers clean the S#@* out of the cavity in the back after a sand shot.

I like the fact that it has mutiable grooves. Gives more contact with the surface of the ball

I like the black pearl finish. I wonder how it will look after a few rounds of play.

nice looking wedges… confidence in wedges always starts with how it looks and how it sets up for the player… I think these will do just fine…

Am I the only one that is totally broken inside here? Maybe you guys didn’t see a CAVITY in there…….. a CAVITY! What is cleveland thinking? My beloved wedges are now moving into hacker friendly territory and with it I Fear a loss of that delicate, buttery, well………scrumtrelescent feel! Please tell me they’re makinga mb design to complement the cavity version. SO UGLY! My ball would move out of the way if I tried to hit it with one of those shovels.

What are you griping for? Don’t you notice the pattern of Cleveland wedges? They have to cater to everyone, so they always have corresponding musclebacks and cavity backs for wedges. Here are the pairs of models: CG10 (MB) & CG11 (CB), CG12 (MB) & CG 14 (CB), and now CG15 (MB) & CG16 (CB). You’ll see the pattern better with the wedge after the CG16 probably being a MB, then a CB after. The Cleveland wedges, CB or MB, have always gotten accolades for feel and perforance, so no need to worry. I got close to getting a CG12, but the vintage X-Forged felt slightly better and it rusts (plus it was a gift from Mommy- not my money! haha)

I got a CG15 a while back and the “laser milling” rubbed off in about a month. The spin milling on my vokey still continues to last after more than half a season.

These look good I”ve got some CG15’s they are awesome so much spin you can hit them on the green and the ball will spin all the way back too you (just joking) can’t wait to have a play with the 16’s
ps The grooves are legal because they are under a certain depth I think it’s like 10 thou”

The Tour Zip Grooves are conforming for use on the PGA Tour. Manufacturers won’t be allowed to make the “old” grooves past Dec 31, 2010. I suspect these are slated for release at the end of the year, or maybe even next year?

These are at least 8 months before release from what we know right now.
